Dhyan Sreenivasan, Aju Varghese, Namita Pramod, Director John Varghese’s Adi Kapyare Koottamani has an interesting premise to offer.  A beautiful young girl Adishta Lakshmi (Namita Pramod) gets into a Boys’ Hostel but can’t get out of there for four days. The inmate who helped her in the adventure is Bhanuprasad (Dhyan Sreenivasan) for which the girl pays him some money as well. And she has to remain in his room and hide herself under the bed, when his friends or the warden come for a visit. With some funny friends like Bruno (Aju Varghese) and Remo (Neeraj Madhav), a priest (Mukesh) and his assistant (Bijukkuttan) along with the rest of the boys there, things get indeed tense. They try to come out of the hostel several times but things get from bad to worse for them.  There are some genuinely hilarious moments in this one and the excitement of the boys to have a girl in their room is evidently palpable. But she is smart enough to take care of herself. But even then it is obvious that this one could have been much better if it was presented in a smarter way, with more intelligent writing and better production values. Like, the climax portions, which has been done pretty hastily.  Of course, even in the current form, this one ends up as an engaging fare. It’s a fine attempt from a debutant director and a group of young actors. Namita Pramod is good, but repeats her signature mannerisms at times. Dhyan Sreenivasan does a decent job for sure. But it is Aju Varghese and Neeraj Madhav who steals the show, in a fabulous way. Mukesh and Bijukkuttan are also impressive with their comic timing. Adi Kapyare Koottamani had more scope for improvement for sure, but it’s a fun ride that remains in your mind, long after you leave the theatre. It’s easily one of the finest comedies that have come in Malayalam this year. Enjoy this one.
